Channel: EntertainmentTaking a cue from fellow Puerto Rican Ricky Martin, who has long made human trafficking his cause, recent Latin Grammy winners Rene Perez and Eduardo Cabra of Calle 13 were in New York on Monday to announce their newest project. The alternative hip-hop duo, which has always been very vocal about social issues through music, is taking actual, quantifiable steps to combat the human trafficking epidemic.
According to a recent study, at least 550,000 children and adolescents throughout Latin America and the Caribbean are now among those who have been lured by false promises and forced into unfair labor practices, sexual slavery and/or drug use.
The new, Spanish-language “MTV Exit (End Exploitation and Trafficking)” multi-media campaign—a partnership between Calle 13, UNICEF, MTV Latin America, and Tr3s: MTV, Musica, y Más—is aimed at Latin American and U.S. Latino audiences.
